Fun, Frivolity, and Oh Yeah… Skiing!
The Jay Peak Trip |
By Jeri & Rob Lovatt
As Jay Peak skiers boarded the bus from Conshohocken, the skies opened up and we were treated to some light snow as we pulled out at 1:00 PM sharp. After enjoying yummy sandwiches from Tony & Joe’s Pizzeria, Diane got everyone moving with her first game of the trip. Once everyone got to know everyone else, the gift game began. Captain Morgan was a big hit, but for some reason, no one wanted to steal the “duck nutcracker.” Our bus driver Sanford was amazing. He was able to drive the first five hours without stopping, so before our dinner stop, Sue K and Sue S treated the passengers to a very classy wine and cheese tasting which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
Snow was falling steadily in Jay Peak as we arrived safe and sound at the lodge before 10:30 PM. Members of the Flying Dutchmen and the EPSC Melting Pot group were there to greet and party with us in the lounge upon arrival.
Friday was a very cold morning, (–24 at the top) but after a hearty and tasty breakfast, everyone got out on the slopes, careful to take a lot of breaks to avoid frostbite. Even with tape all over his face, Murray still got a little bite. Most skiers ended the day early to hit the hot tub to warm up. The Lovatt Lounge was open most of the time so everyone could grab their beverage of choice to take to the tub or just hang out in the KOPSC lounge. EPSC hosted a nice dinner in the International room followed by some great dancing.
Saturday was race day, and the temps warmed up to the teens, so skiing was really great. Of the KOPSC teams, “The Flying Schmegma” placed sixth, “The Flying Prussians” placed seventh, “The Flying Douchebags” came in eighth, and finally “The Flying Kings” placed 11th. Out of 14 teams, we were quite thrilled with the results. Ask Steve J about the names if you are wondering about them. Lots of prizes were handed out that night, including one for the KOPSC Synchronized Ski Team led by Andrea and Mari. Steve C. won the big prize – a new pair of Rossignol skis.
Sunday warmed up to the low 20s, and with two fresh inches, the snow was better then ever. After yet another scrumptious breakfast in the hotel, most of the group headed out to the slopes again for their last runs of the trip. With the help of Mark, Nick and Andrea, we were able to get all the supplies back on the bus. Jay provided us with a case of Jay Peak beer to enjoy on the way home. Deb and Brian entertained us with a fun quotation game to start off the trip home, then Sue announced the winners of her “Funky Fruit” contest. Great snow, fun people (KOPSC, Dutchmen, EPSC, Jay Peak Staff), super food and lots of laughter made for a superb trip enjoyed by all. |
