Hiking & Camping

Berks County Pinnacle

On Sunday, May 26th (during Memorial Day weekend), meet us at 10 AM in the parking lot at the end of Reservoir Road, Hamburg Pa. for a hike to The Pinnacle of Berks County. This is a nine-mile hike and the first 65 - 70 minutes are uphill, approximately 900 feet elevation gain. Great views from Pulpit Rocks and The Pinnacle where we will break for lunch. There are often more hawks flying about here than nearby Hawk Mountain . This is usually a 4 1/2 hour hike, followed by liquid refreshments in Lenhartsville.

Lancaster County Conestoga Trail

On Sunday, June 23rd, we will be venturing out to our most difficult hike along the Conestoga Trail in Lancaster County. We will meet off the Downingtown Turnpike exit at 9:30 AM. This is a very strenuous 9 1/2 mile hike–all hills. It is not a green or a blue – definitely a double black. The hike starts with the enchanting Kelly's Run, then up to the "other" Pinnacle overlook where we can stop for lunch overlooking the Susquehanna. It will feel like a pretty full day by then, but the hike is only 1/3 over. Next, we proceed steeply down through Tuquan Glen and several other creeks and overlooks, and on to the seriously dark Wind Cave. No one is going back the way we came, so we will start the day leaving cars at both ends of the hike and shuttling back. Dinner to follow in Lancaster.

Camping @ Ricketts Glen

August 23rd - 25th, join us for a weekend of camping at Ricketts Glen. Saturday will be the Waterfalls Hike; Sunday, picnic on Lake Jean .
