A Little Place Like Kokomo

It might not have been Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahama, Key Largo, Montego, or Kokomo, but the Jeffersonville Golf Club could have been any of these. That's where about 66 members and 2 guests came to our Beach Party to get away from it all. Beach balls were bouncing around under the shade of a palm tree and colorful balloons filled the sky. Hawaiian shirts, leis, and sandals were the required dress code. Terry played summertime tunes all evening, including, of course, the Beach Boys, and Chris and Bernie tore up the dance floor. Our last meeting of the 2012 - 2013 season was a celebration of incredible skiing adventures and a welcoming of fabulous Summer events and activities.

We held our first-ever photo contest which included three categories - Nature, Humor, and On the Slopes. There were an overwhelming number of entries, particularly in the Nature category. We have some extremely talented photographers in our club, as you may know, making the voting really difficult. In the end Murray won the Nature category, Anne won the On the Slopes category, and Cheryl won the Humor category. We charged a $1 donation to vote, resulting in our Snow Angels collecting $59.

It was also Election Day. You elected a stellar, and if I may say so, a lovely team of women to guide us through the 2013 - 2014 season. Yes, we now have an all-woman board of directors. Congratulations to Lois, Chris, Kirstie, Gwen, Lydia, Ellen, and Karen, the girls on the beach! Board meetings are sure to be fun! We all owe a lot of thanks to our outgoing board members Paul, Jeanette and Steve.

We had a fine selection of raffle prizes, including wine, rum, Shock Top beer and Leinenkugel's Canoe Paddle beer. Jack won twice, pulling his own ticket. Paul, Annika and Elaine took home the rest. Joanie took home $31 and Lori took home $62.

Our next meeting will be September 17, 2013 so mark your calendar now. We are always soliciting new ideas to make our meetings fun and interesting. So if you have any thoughts, please let me or a board member know what you are thinking.

General membership meetings are held at The Jeffersonville Golf Club on the third Tuesday of each month. Beer, wine, mixed drinks and assorted hot and cold sandwiches are available for purchase.

The general membership meetings for the ski club are held on the third Tuesday of each month from September through April.
